Louis Comfort Tiffany

February 18, 1848 in New York; † January 17, 1933 ibid – was a U.S. entrepreneur, painter and glass artist

With their playful floral motifs, Tiffany’s glass creations are among the most beautiful Art Nouveau glasses. In addition, Tiffany also designed flat glass (mosaics and windows), for example, for the Tiffany Chapel in the Cathedral of New York. Particularly appreciated were also Tiffany lamps, whose shades are largely made of colored glass pieces, which were previously enclosed in copper foil and then soldered together. This technique of joining pieces of glass (Tiffany glass art technique) made Tiffany and his glass creations world famous. His lamps were created with bronze elements by Duffner and Kimberly Co.in New York.

In 1902, Tiffany & Co, the New York jewelry business of his father Charles Lewis Tiffany, also became his property. After Tiffany’s death, his businesses were completely sold by 1928and produced glass in Tiffany’s style, but without the use of his signature, until 1931.

His daughter Dorothy Tiffany Burlingham first moved to Vienna to have her son treated by Anna Freud and then went to London with the Freud family, as they had a particularly close friendship with Anna Freud.

The Frederick Ayer Mansion in Boston is the only structure in the world that still has Tiffany’s artwork largely in its original condition, both on the exterior faƧade and in the interior spaces. Source: Wikipedia.
