Peter Carl FabergĆ© (Russian ŠŠµŃŠµŃ ŠŠ°ŃŠ» Š¤Š°Š±ŠµŃŠ¶Šµ; b. 18 Mayjul. / 30 May 1846 in Saint Petersburg to ā 24 September 1920 in Pully near Lausanne) was a Russian goldsmith and jeweler. He became famous for his extremely ornate and masterfully crafted jewelry and decorative objects, especially the world-famous FabergĆ© eggs.
August Frederik Hollming was born in Loppi, Finland, the son of an accountant, Anders Gustaf Hollming from Lovisa, and Katarina Petterson from Nykarleby. Hollming apprenticed with the goldsmith Carl Friedrich Ekholm in Helsinki in the early 1870s. In 1876 he settled in St. Petersburg and registered as a gold worker.
In 1880 he qualified as a master craftsman and opened his workshop at 35 Kazanskaya Street. He was soon hired by FabergƩ. He had three sons with Erika Gustava Abrahamsson (1856-1909). In 1900, the Hollming workshop moved to Bolshaya Morskaya 24, under the same roof as FabergƩ. He produced mainly cigarette cases in silver, gold, and enamel; miniature Easter eggs; and small gem-set enameled jewels such as cufflinks, brooches, and pins. Many times he made these objects for the house of FabergƩ. The design of the jewelry was surprisingly modern and ahead of its time.
