The Bremen Workshops

After completing his apprenticeship at Koch & Bergfeld, the chaser Wilhelm Schulze (1873-1947) from Bremen had worked from 1895 to 1920 at the David-Andersen silverware manufactory in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway, and then returned to manage a manufacturing plant and branch in Bremen. He took over the workshop, which had been set up at Gröpelinger Heerstraße 15, entirely under his own management the following year. His one-offs and small series readily incorporated elements of the Scandinavian silver style with its stylized organic motifs. At the 1937 Paris World’s Fair, the company received a gold medal. Although younger and smaller than the large, traditional Bremen manufacturers Wilkens & Söhne and Koch & Bergfeld, BWKS created a national, and in some cases international, sales market for itself. After the restrictions and destruction of the Second World War and the death of the founder, his son Richard Schulze (1902-1988) rebuilt the workshops at the same location from 1947.
The success was contributed by the fact that from the 1950s the production branch of church silver gained a great weight. The German armed forces became a major client. Repairs and restorations as well as work in brass have been another field of work since then. External designers for the company include Wolfgang Tümpel and Friedrich Marby. In 1981, the management passed to the grandchild generation with Björn Schulze (* 1947). Source: Wikipedia
