Large silver bowl for jam from the time of Abdülmecid I, Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. The foot bowl can be unscrewed, so you can also see the tremolo line, which was used to accurately determine the fineness. The bowl is richly decorated with floral engraving and worked in a wonderful flowing form chalice. A rather rare piece, contemporary circa 1845.

Abdülmecid (b. April 25, 1823 in Istanbul; † June 25, 1861 there; also Abdul Mecid, Abdul Medschid) was sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1839 until his death.
Tughra (today’s Turkish spelling: tuğra) is the name for the name of a sultan of the Ottomans, handwritten and painted, but also in reliefs and mechanically duplicated, was used as an imperial sign of the sultan.
