A native of Germany, Gustav Klingert (in Russian: ŠŃŃŃŠ°Š² ŠŠ»ŠøŠ½Š³ŠµŃŃ) began his career as a master at FabergĆ©. In 1865, he established his own factory in Moscow, employing over 200 craftsmen and producing items worth 400,000 rubles. In 1889 he exhibited at the Exposition Universelle in Paris, where his works received honorable mentions. Four years later, Klingert was named one of the most important companies in Russia at the Chicago World’s Fair. Thanks to its popularity, the company began to export its goods to the United States through Tiffany & Co. In 1896 Gustav Klingert was awarded the Imperial Warrant.
After Gustav Klingert’s retirement, the business was continued by his sons and grandsons until it had to close due to the outbreak of the Russian Revolution. The company specialized in silver-gilt, cloisonnĆ© and champleve enamel snuff boxes, cigarette cases and tableware. Until 1899 Klingert designated his articles with Latin letters GK, after that in Cyrillic. Source: pushkinantiques
