SƤchsische Porzellan-Manufaktur Dresden GmbH is a company producing ornamental and luxury porcelain in the Potschappel district of Freital. It is owned by the Russian businessman Armenak S. Agababyan. SƤchsische Porzellan-Manufaktur Dresden GmbH exports 80% of its products. The main markets are the Russian, Asian and Arab regions. Carl-Johann Gottlob Thieme (* September 12, 1823 in Niederjahna; † March 18, 1888 in Dresden) was a house painter of porcelain. At the same time, he ran his own porcelain and antique store in the center of Dresden since 1864. He decided to produce his own porcelain. He found a suitable site just outside the city of Dresden in the industrial village of Potschappel. On September 17, 1872, the SƤchsische Porzellan-Fabrik Carl Thieme zu Potschappel started operations. From the beginning, white porcelain was sold not only to the Dresden house painters, but throughout Europe. Likewise, not only self-made, but also purchased white porcelain painted and sold there. The flower modeler Carl August Kuntzsch (1855-1920), a son-in-law of Thieme, played a major role in the company’s success. He created a stylistic feature of Dresden porcelain with the “lush floral coating”. After Thieme’s death, he took over the company and the economic success allowed a structural expansion of the production buildings in 1912, which have remained unchanged to this day.
