Founded in 1905 as a joint-stock company, the Bremer Silberwarenfabrik produced silverware for the somewhat narrower budget during the first half century of its existence and was also able to expand in this business sector. In 1937, the Bremen Silverware Factory (BSF) took over the Hanseatic silverware factory Brinkmann, Lange and Co, founded in 1925, which specialized in more Frisian traditional patterns. The company settled in Bremen-Hemelingen, a suburb of the Hanseatic city of Bremen, where the traditional Wilkens company is still located today.
