Founded in 1801, Barker Ellis Silver Co. Ltd. is one of the oldest silversmithing and electroplating companies operating in Birmingham today. It still has the original Boulton & Watt dies acquired in the early days of manufacture. The company appears in the 1871 Birmingham Post Office Directory as Barker Brothers, silversmiths, producing a wide range of candlesticks, cutlery and tableware from their Paradise Street premises. By the early 20th century, the company had moved to Constitution Hill, where it remained until the 1980s. In the 1960s, the company merged with another long-established company that manufactured silver-plated and galvanized ware, Ellis & Co Ltd.
